The M.A.N 18.240 HOCL-NL chassis is Euro IV compliant and is fitted with a Voith DIWA 854.5 as per the manufacturer's recommendations. It is bodied by Gemilang based on the original M.A.N Lion City bodywork. There is currently only 1 unit, SBS8031J, which is working as a demonstrator. The Mercedes O500LE citybus is also South East Asia's FIRST Euro V compliant bus. 67 units are expected to be introduced by Oct 08, beginning with the first example on 14 May 08. They will replace the venerable Nissan Diesel U31RCN and the Scania L113CRL with ELBO bodywork as these 2 makes have drawn huge amount of complaints from the public over a variety of problems. The O500LE is bodied by Gemilang of Malaysia and has a Citaro front, with Konvekta airconditioning and LAWO EDS. It is powered by a OM457hLA inline 6-cylinder 11.967-litre turbocharged intercooled, direct injection diesel that delivers a whooping 299bhp, making it the most powerful 12m single deck bus on the roads here currently. It is connected to a ZF automatic 6 gear gearbox. In order to meet the Euro V standards, another module uses an additive (known as AdBlue) to perform Selective Catalytic Reduction that breaks down Nitrogen Oxide in the exhaust to just Nitrogen and Oxygen. In addition to 500 units of Euro IV compliant examples, a further order was placed for 400 units which comply with the more stringent Euro V emission standard. The first of these units were placed into service in April 2009, and feature a clearer and larger Hanover EDS, as well as an improved interior layout. All 150 units will be bodied by ComfortDelgro's own design, and features a manually operated ramp at the rear door to facilitate the movement of wheelchair bound passengers. In addition, 100 of them will be the first public buses to be fitted with the ZF 6HP500 in Singapore, whilst the remainder would be mated with a 4 speed Voith gearbox. A further 15 examples was brought in the same year in 1996. These are the first buses in Trans-Island's fleet to feature zero-step boarding. These non-airconditioned examples are bodied by ELBO of Greece with Arianne bucket seats, both a first for the company. Wednesday 12 April 2006: Trans-Island introduced 50 Scania L113CRLs into their fleet in 1995, which was bodied with Walter Alexander Strider bodywork and featured underfloor airconditioners. A further 15 examples was brought in the same year in 1996. These are the first buses in Trans-Island's fleet to feature zero-step boarding. These non-airconditioned examples are bodied by ELBO of Greece with Arianne bucket seats, both a first for the company. This bus travels between different schools to teach students about creative expression and digital imaging. It has also recently been the star of an exchange programme to Malacca in Malaysia. The bus is entirely ran by MAD (Make A Difference) volunteers, and is sure a meaningful way to serve the community! This concept of a mobile playground was first implemented in Australia. On 5 Dec 2004, she made a maiden public appearance at the Padang in conjunction with the Standard Chartered Marathon. They were bodied in equal numbers with Duple Metsec and Walter Alexander bodyworks. Some of these buses are also fitted with air-conditioning in later years to provide additional passenger comfort. This calls for an amalgation of bus companies and routes, as well as ticketing system to rationalise resources and make the public transport network friendlier to use. The largest public bus company, Intrakota, was merged with Cityliner of Park May Bhd to form the bus division of Rapid KL, along with a livery change. Putra LRT and STAR LRT are also merged, along with a slight livery change and commonalisation of ticketing system. In 2006-2007, the bus network was re-organised into a hub network consisting of Tempatan, Bandar, Utama & Ekspres routes. New buses, including wheelchair-accessible buses, were also brought into to replace the old fleet. These buses were bodied by Hispano Carrocera of Spain, and pioneered the use of individual seating units on public buses. These buses all had underfloor air-conditioning units, with the exception of TIB488J which had a supplementary Konvekta unit fitted on its roof in 2005. A further 73 units were introduced in 1996, and these were non air-conditioned. 2 large, grilled vents near the roofline on either side of the bus allowed fresh air to be drawn into the interior. As these buses used the same aircondition ducts as the previous batch for ventilation purposes, it was hence easy to convert them to air-conditioned buses between 2000 and 2002. 15 additional units were fitted with the modified Volgren CR221L body in 1998, following successful implementation of the bodywork onto the Hino H3KRKA chassis earlier on. All the Mercedes Benz 0405s of Trans-Island are fitted with ZF 4HP500 gearboxes.
