| The backbone of Trans-Island's fleet, 235 units of them was first introduced to the fleet in 1994. These buses were bodied by Hispano Carrocera of Spain, and pioneered the use of individual seating units on public buses. These buses all had underfloor air-conditioning units, with the exception of TIB488J which had a supplementary Konvekta unit fitted on its roof in 2005.
A further 73 units were introduced in 1996, and these were non air-conditioned. 2 large, grilled vents near the roofline on either side of the bus allowed fresh air to be drawn into the interior. As these buses used the same aircondition ducts as the previous batch for ventilation purposes, it was hence easy to convert them to air-conditioned buses between 2000 and 2002. 15 additional units were fitted with the modified Volgren CR221L body in 1998, following successful implementation of the bodywork onto the Hino H3KRKA chassis earlier on. All the Mercedes Benz 0405s of Trans-Island are fitted with ZF 4HP500 gearboxes. |
